Ahead of the game between the Lynx and Fever, ESPN’s Myron Medcalf asked Cheryl Reeve about Caitlin Clark potentially playing on future national teams, following her omission from the Paris roster despite her standout college career and early success in the WNBA. The question appeared to leave Reeve infuriated, reflecting the ongoing controversy and criticism surrounding the decision to exclude Clark from the roster.

During the pre-game press conference, Cheryl Reeve was questioned by Indy Star’s Chloe Peterson about the noticeable “Clark effect” taking hold in Minnesota, potentially swaying the crowd in favor of the Fever. Reeve’s response to this line of questioning again showed her frustration and displeasure with the situation.

The crowd at Target Center was unmistakably pro-Fever. From the moment Caitlin Clark caught the ball after the opening tip, their support was loud and clear throughout the game.

Heading into the game, the Lynx boasted one of the best records in the WNBA at 16-7, but they ended Sunday’s matchup with a loss. Caitlin Clark’s impact was pivotal, especially in the fourth quarter, where she took charge and finished with 17 points, six assists, three rebounds, and two steals in Indiana’s impressive 81-74 win.

As the game came down to the wire, Clark’s presence was felt both on the court and in the stands. When she was fouled in the final seconds while the Fever sought the victory, Clark and the Fever fans made their voices heard. Clark even took a moment to hype up the crowd, adding to the electric atmosphere of the game.

While Cheryl Reeve may choose not to acknowledge the impact Caitlin Clark has had, it’s undeniable that Clark’s presence was significant in Sunday’s victory. Looking ahead, if Reeve remains coach of the US Women’s Basketball team for the 2028 Olympics, she should prepare to potentially see Clark on that roster. Clark’s performances continue to showcase her potential for elite competition on the international stage.
