Dr. Dre has been accused of making a series of threats to his ex-marriage counselor in a newly-filed $10 million lawsuit.
The suit was filed by Dr. Charles Sophy, a psychiatrist who said he counseled the Compton, California native, 59, and his ex-wife Nicole Young, 54, during their marriage and as a mediator following their split, TMZ reported Wednesday after reviewing legal documents in the case.
Sophy said in court docs he has been intimated by the rapper’s threats, and has been donning a bulletproof vest as a precautionary measure as a result.
Sophy told the court that in February of 2023 – one year and two months after the acrimonious divorce had been finalized in December of 2021 – Dr. Dre began inundating him with ‘abusive and threatening text messages,’ according to TMZ.
Sophy said in legal docs that the Beats Electronics founder had falsely accused him of orchestrating a smear campaign against him amid the split with Young, the outlet reported.

Sophy told the court that Dr. Dre falsely claimed Sophy arranged for an outside party to say inflammatory remarks to media outlets about him.
Sophy said in legal docs that Dr. Dre sent texts vowing he would ‘make [Sophy] pay for that,’ calling him a ‘piece of s***’ and a ‘b****’ amid the text tirades.
The Forgot About Dre artist, whose full name is Andre Young, at one point had his associates masquerading as FBI agents to contact him at the gated community where he resides, Sophy claimed in the suit, according to TMZ.
Sophy told the court in the aftermath of the incident – in which he said the associates impersonating federal officials threatened to physically harm him – he has spent additional money on securing his home.
Sophy said that as result of the incident, he has taken to wear bulletproof vests and caps when he departs his house, the outlet reported.
Sophy also asked the court to issue a restraining order keeping Dr. Dre at least 100 yards away.
‘Dr. Sophy filed his suit only after he failed to pressure Mr. Young into dropping efforts to get Dr. Sophy punished for dereliction of duties and incredible incompetence,’ Dr. Dre’s attorney Howard King told TMZ.
King said that Dr. Dre in 2023 filed a confidential complaint with the Osteopathic Medical Board of California about his experience with Sophy.

King said Dr. Dre’s complaint was done with the intent so officials would revoke Sophy’s medical license ‘to provide mental health counseling to needy patients’ after the events that took place amid the divorce.
‘In gross violation of all applicable standards of care, Dr. Sophy inserted himself into a contentious divorce while he simultaneously “treated” not only Mr. and Mrs. Young, but their children,’ King told TMZ.
He continued, ‘He was terminated when it was revealed that he was encouraging one of their children to take sides against Mr. Young, even encouraging his son to go to the press with false allegations in order to force a financial settlement that he recommended.’
King said Sophy ‘has consistently rebuffed’ officials attempts to probe the aforementioned allegations, describing his efforts in filing the suit as ‘desperate.’
