EMINEM REVEALS ‘THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY’ RELEASE DATE WITH DEMONIC TEASER
Eminem has announced the release date for his new album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
The Detroit rapper took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday (July 1) to share a demonic teaser for the project, while revealing July 12 as the release date.
In the clip, Em takes fans to the fictional Pompsomp Hills Hospital where a woman gives birth to a demon baby with horns (presumably Marshall Mathers himself).
He wrote in the caption: “OH SH*T!!! THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY (COUP DE GRÂCE) [skull emoji] 7/12!!!”
Eminem first announced The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) in April via a teaser trailer that dropped shortly after his appearance at the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit.
In the clip, which took on the form of a true crime show, a reporter discusses Em’s controversial alter ego and says: “Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.”
50 Cent also makes a cameo appearance and says: “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath.”
The reporter then adds: “The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady.”
Eminem pops up at the end of the clip as a blurred talking head and says: “I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim.”
Slim Shady released the first single “Houdini” in May, along with a whimsical, comic book-style video that evoked his 2002 hit “Without Me.”
The song, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, finds Em playfully jabbing Megan Thee Stallion and R. Kelly, among other targets.
“If I was to ask for Megan Thee/ Stallion if she would collab with me/ Would I really have a shot at a feat?” he raps, referencing the foot injuries she sustained when Tory Lanez shot her in 2020.
He later makes reference to the leaked sex tape that allegedly showed Kelly urinating on a minor: “In the coupe, leaning back my seat/ Bumpin’ R. Kelly’s favorite group, the black guy pees.”
The next single from the project, “TOBEY,” is set to be released this week with features from fellow Detroit rappers Big Sean and Babytron.
