“Christie Sides Advocates for Caitlin Clark, Urges WNBA Action Against ‘Unacceptable’ Fouls”
Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides has reached her breaking point.
What stole the spotlight was a controversial moment involving Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter. After a clutch jumper, Carter blindsided Caitlin Clark with a forceful shove, sparking a heated debate. This off-the-ball foul, occurring just before Aliyah Boston’s subsequent inbounds pass, ignited a firestorm of discussion.
Carter appeared to yell ‘you b***h’ before the hard foul on Clark in the third quarter
After her postgame media session, Sides took to social media to vent her frustrations and deliver a scathing rebuke to the WNBA regarding the recent physical altercation involving Clark.
“This is absolutely unacceptable, WNBA. How many more consistent complaints need to be made before action is taken?!? Enough is enough! Something has to be done!” Sides passionately declared on social media.
Shortly before venting her frustrations on social media, Sides took a moment to commend Clark for her professionalism in handling the altercation with Carter.
“We’re consistently submitting these sequences to the league, highlighting these plays, and hopefully, they’ll start to scrutinize some of these incidents more closely, acknowledging what we perceive to be happening.
“I’m just pleased that Caitlin handled it the way she did. It’s challenging to endure constant physicality without receiving the deserved free throws or foul calls. Yet, she continues to persevere through it. I deeply appreciate her resilience. I’m truly proud of her for that,” Sides expressed.
During the break between the third and fourth quarters, Clark took a moment to speak with ESPN for a mid-game interview, addressing the foul by Carter.
“Yeah, that’s just not a basketball play. But you know, I’ve gotta play through it, that’s what basketball is about at this level,” Clark remarked.
In contrast, Carter opted not to comment on the foul after the Fever’s victory.
“I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions. I don’t know what she said. I didn’t say anything,” Carter bluntly told reporters.
Clark concluded the game with 11 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and one steal. The rookie guard, standing at 6 feet tall, shot 4-for-11 from the field, including 2-of-9 from beyond the arc.
During the Fever’s triumph, Clark joined Sabrina Ionescu as one of the only players in WNBA history to tally 150-plus points, 50-plus rebounds, and 50-plus assists in their first 10 career games.
Looking ahead, Clark and the Fever are set to take on the New York Liberty in a highly anticipated matchup airing on NBA TV at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
