Star point guard Stephen Curry is set to play in the Olympics for the first time in his legendary career, and he is cherishing the opportunity because he knows he’s likely to be a one-and-done player on Team USA.
The 36-year-old told ESPN’s Malika Andrews on NBA Today that The Paris Olympics will likely be the only Olympics he will have the chance to play in before he calls it a career.
Curry has played for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup and won gold medals in 2010 and 2014. However, he missed the 2016 Rio Olympics while recovering from knee and ankle injuries and opted not to play in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 so he could gear up for the upcoming NBA season. His choice paid off that year, as he led the Golden State Warriors to the 2022 NBA championship.
Team USA features a star-studded roster that includes LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid and Anthony Davis. Curry said he’s looking forward to the new challenge of trying to bring home an Olympic gold medal.
“You get those first-time jitters. At this stage, to find something like that I can do for the first time is pretty cool,” he said.
