Caitlin Clark’s early WNBA struggles have fans lobbying Lisa Bluder to replace Christie Sides: “Playbook needs to be completely revamped”.
Since her much-anticipated debut in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have gone 0-2 to start the 2024 WNBA regular season. Clark’s performances in the games have been underwhelming compared to fans’ expectations. This led to fans lobbying for Clark’s previous coach in Iowa, Lisa Bluder, to replace the Fever’s current coach Christie Sides.
“Throw a bag at Bluder to come out of retirement. Playbook needs to be completely revamped and Sides is outta her element here,” a fan said.
“Dear Lord in Heaven please let Bluder eventually take over the Indiana Fever,” another fan said.
“I hope Lisa takes her job. The only thing that will save the WNBA,” said a third.
“Hopefully Sides has asked Bluder for some pointers on how to coach Caitlin and win games,” one fan pointed out.
“She should have taken some tips from Bluder or just gave her the bench and let her coach,” another fan suggested.
Caitlin Clark flourished under Lisa Bluder in Iowa, garnering a substantial name for herself well before she was drafted into the WNBA. However, Bluder is currently retired, and it may be too early to judge Clark’s efficiency under Christie Sides.
Caitlin made her official debut in the WNBA on May 14 as the Indiana Fever faced the Connecticut Sun for their first game of the season. The 2024 WNBA Draft’s 1st overall pick registered 20 points, three assists, and two steals while shooting 33.3% from the field as the Fever fell 92-71 to the Sun.
Clark’s debut against the Sun also featured her committing 10 turnovers, setting a WNBA record for most turnovers in a debut game.
Moreover, Clark’s second game featured the Fever suffering a 36-point loss against the New York Liberty. The NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer registered nine points, seven rebounds, six assists, and one block while shooting 25% from the field including 14.3% from beyond the arc in the game.
Caitlin Clark loses cool at WNBA official as Fever go down 0-2
In a notable moment during the Indiana Fever’s matchup against the New York Liberty, Caitlin Clark was seen arguing with a WNBA official. Clark was visibly frustrated with the game’s officiating in Indiana’s second game of the season. She walked to the bench during a timeout but not without a verbal back-and-forth with the referee.
Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides intervened before things could escalate between the star rookie and the WNBA official:
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever will look to get back on the winning track when they face the New York Liberty for the second of their back-to-back matchups on Friday.
