Cash Money Bosses Talk Eminem and Missed Opportunities

Cash Money Records co-founders Birdman and his older brother Ronald “Slim” Williams recently sat down with DJ WhooKid to discuss a variety of topics, including their relationship with Eminem.

They even addressed some, apparently, ungrounded rumours about signing Slim Shady to their label.

DJ WhooKid: I know you have collaborated with Eminem a few times. How was your relationship with Eminem?

Slim: It was great. I met him a couple of times.
Birdman: Em and Wayne traded some features before. I was on their video set. I met him a couple of times myself. Em has always been cool with us.

DJ WhooKid: I want to know how does Slim talk to Eminem. How do you talk to this guy?

Slim: I don’t talk much. I just said wassup, you know.
DJ WhooKid ran a record that said, “We definitely respect that man and show that man all respect in the world,” and both Cash Money bosses nodded in agreement.

DJ WhooKid: You guys were signing so many artists. I heard Eminem was on the list back in the days, almost like it was in talks. Is that true?

Slim: No. That would have been great, though.
Birdman: I wish we would have.

It would be interesting to know where these rumours originated. But for now, it is impossible to imagine the trajectory Eminem’s career would have taken if he had signed to anybody else but Dr. Dre. And considering the impact Marshall’s music left on the world, it would have been a very different word today.
