Eminem released this statement on X:
“Public service announcement: the “death of slim shady” is a conceptual album, therefore, if you listen to songs out of order they might not make sense. Enjoy.”

A conceptual album is one where the songs are best heard in album order, for cohesiveness and better understanding.

He starts the album off with “Renaissance” on track 1, in which he spits with a loud “Hawk Tuah”, then goes on a lyrical rampage spitting some controversial lyrics. He “travels” inside the mindset of a hating fan to deliver some harsh disses of fellow rappers, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Joyner Lucas, J.Cole, and even Slim Shady HIMSELF (yes, read that again!)…

Lyrics:
“Now let’s travel inside the mind of a hater

‘Cause I don’t see no fans, all I see is a bunch of complainers

“Kendrick’s album was cool, but it didn’t have any bangers

Wayne’s album or Ye’s, couldn’t tell which one was lamer

Joyner’s album was corny

Shady’s new sh** is way worse

Everything is either too tame or there’s too much anger

I didn’t like the beat, so I hated ‘Might Delete Later’

You nerdy pricks would find somethin’ wrong with 36 Chambers”

He then returns from inside the mind of a hater to refer to them as “the greats”.

‘Renaissance’ is also ironically the album title of one of Beyonce’s albums. No direct reference to her or Jay-Z here, but definitely duly noted, because, as you know, it was a bestselling album, and the hashtag was trending. Now Eminem’s song will share that same hashtag.

The word “Renaissance” means rebirth, so it could have also just been a coincidence…
