Jake Paul has put his marker down in the boxing business. He will be going up against boxing legend Mike Tyson on November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fight will be broadcast on Netflix, and both fighters will be going home with a massive paycheck at the end of the day. Although, Paul has added a lot of high-profile names to his boxing record, is it good enough for him to be called a credible boxer? The majority of names in his win column are washed-up MMA fighters or semi-retired boxers. In fact, in his bout against Tommy Fury— the only boxer he faced who was close to his age, Paul suffered the only loss in his boxing record.

That being said, a video posted by DAZN Boxing, showing renowned promoter Eddie Hearn providing an honest assessment of Jake Paul’s boxing ability, is doing the rounds on the internet. It all went down when the duo sat down for an interview with DAZN back in May of 2022 during the build-up of the Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano fight. Paul took offense to Hearn’s comments calling him “average” following his first professional fight against AnEsonGib, an English YouTuber, in 2020.

“You call me average after one minute of my first professional fight,” Paul said. Not backtracking on his analysis of Paul as a boxer, Hearn said, “You are still average.”

In his rebuttal, Jake Paul stated that he wasn’t able to show enough of his skills in the fight for him to be deemed average. “You don’t even know my ability though,” he said sternly.

The intense back-and-forth continued as Hearn responded with, “That’s true, that’s true. I don’t know where you might go. I just give you where I think you’re at which I’m entitled to, which is average.” Thereafter, Hearn delivered the kicker — “Average is very complimentary for you as a boxer.”

Commenting on the video which was re-shared by the Instagram account boxingworldfans, retired former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis and super-middleweight boxer Anthony Sims Jr. reacted with laughing emojis, clearly bemused by Hearn’s quick-fire response to Jake Paul’s defense of his boxing chops.

On the other hand, boxing legend Mike Tyson has vowed to put an end to Jake Paul’s boxing career.

The end of Jake Paul’s relevancy?

In an interview with Cam’ron and Mase on the Come And Talk 2 Me podcast, Tyson talked about his upcoming opponent. He highlighted that he was the one who kicked off Jake Paul’s boxing career. “I started him off okay, I started Jake. I let him fight on my undercard,” Mike Tyson said. For those unversed, Paul fought former NBA star Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. The Ohio native went viral after he knocked Robinson out cold in his second professional fight.

However, just like many other boxing fans, he was tired of the Jake Paul hype train and wanted to finish his hopes of becoming a world champion during their upcoming showdown. “No one knew who the hell he was, okay. So I started him and most likely looks like I’m going to finish him,” he stated with bad intentions.

Safe to say, Mike Tyson is on a mission of his own, possessed by a desire to prove his critics wrong who don’t give him a chance against a much younger Paul. But, all it takes is one good punch from Mike Tyson to land flush on Paul’s chin to end his professional boxing career once and for all.
