Dame Dash Accuses JAY-Z of Disrupting Roc-A-Fella Auction Over ‘Reasonable Doubt’ Copyright Dispute.

Dame Dash has accused JAY-Z of attempting to sabotage the public auction of his one-third ownership stake in Roc-A-Fella Records. The City of New York recently requested a stay in the auction process following comments made by JAY-Z regarding the copyright ownership of his debut album Reasonable Doubt.

JAY-Z reportedly claimed that the album’s copyright would revert to him in 2031 under the Copyright Act. However, the City alleges that his statement is false and intentionally disruptive to the auction. The City claims that the album’s copyright will remain with Roc-A-Fella Records until 2098, accusing the label of failing to provide proper proof of royalties generated by the album.

Dash took to Instagram to express his frustration, stating: “The State of NY has stepped in and filed the following to the courts… JAY-Z’s statements to the press have poisoned the environment for the auction. He has claimed he has a termination right under the Copyright Act, and that the rights to Reasonable Doubt will revert to him in six years.”

Dash continued, “In fact, he has no such termination right, and Roc-A-Fella is entitled to the renewal term, which is now 67 years, meaning it will own the copyright rights until 2098. The highest possible auction price could be more than ten times higher than it is now, due to JAY-Z’s and Roc-A-Fella’s actions.”

The auction, which was initially scheduled for late August, has now been delayed to September. This comes after the State and City of New York claimed that Dame Dash owes nearly $10 million, including a $1 million debt to film producer Josh Webber, following a copyright infringement lawsuit over the movie Dear Frank. The auction was ordered by the court to settle Dash’s debts.

Adding to the drama, Dame Dash recently claimed that Drake has expressed interest in purchasing his shares in Roc-A-Fella Records. As Dash mentioned, “[Drake] made an offer.” Whether this will affect the ongoing auction process remains to be seen.

The legal and financial battles surrounding Roc-A-Fella Records continue to unfold, with significant implications for all parties involved.
